In a recent crackdown, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has implemented strict measures against industries operating in unauthorized areas. The MCD has sealed 84 complexes and disconnected electricity and water supply in seven locations. Non-conforming industrial areas are unauthorized locations where industries operate without proper approvals. There are 26 such areas, with approximately 70% of the land being used for industrial purposes. Some of these areas include Khyala, Peeragarhi, Mundka, Hastsal, and Anand Parbat. The Delhi government is working on redeveloping some of these areas to boost the city's economy, create job opportunities, and support industrial units. The MCD conducted inspections on 520 units in unauthorized areas in August and September to ensure compliance with regulations. Licensing officers also inspected 215 factories in authorized zones and found 43 operating without proper licenses. Notices were issued to these factories, and 31 then applied for licenses. For those that did not respond, the MCD disconnected power and water supply after a three-day notice period. Measures are also being taken to monitor units that were relocated from residential to industrial areas following the MC Mehta vs Union of India case.
